Reimagining Higher Education

Equitable Instruction by Design: A Pilot for Transformative Teaching and Learning partners with the Center for Teaching and Learning to support faculty in designing equity-oriented, engaging undergraduate courses with thoughtful technology integration. The project centers collaborative course design, peer learning, and experimentation with pedagogical approaches such as experiential learning, authentic assessment, and the use of digital and AI-supported tools. Our goal is to create sustained space, time, and shared resources that support iterative course redesign and enhance student engagement and authentic learning experiences. This work is generously funded by a Reimagining Higher Education Grant from UC Berkeley’s Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost.

Faculty Fellows

Faculty Fellows are instructors from across the UC Berkeley School of Education participating in the Equitable Instruction by Design pilot. Through a summer workshop and ongoing collaboration, Fellows reflect on their courses, experiment with instructional strategies, and explore thoughtful uses of digital and AI-supported tools. The fellowship provides time and community for faculty to iteratively strengthen course design in ways that support equitable and engaging undergraduate learning.

Project Team

The project is led by Glynda Hull (Faculty Director). José Ramón Lizárraga serves as Senior Researcher Project Manager, coordinating the initiative, workshop, and research. Catherine Park is the Postdoctoral Scholar supporting research and program design, and Meg Everett is the Doctoral Researcher assisting with implementation and analysis. Jenae Cohn and Erin Murphy-Graham serve as faculty collaborators and advisors to the project.
